For athletes looking to play college ball, the recruiting process may seem daunting at first. Understanding when players can talk to coaches, if they have to initiate conversations or if coaches do, where to start looking, and ultimately- where they’ll have the most success.

We’re here to give you a better understanding of the college baseball recruiting timeline and when you can start the process. The Youth Inc. team has curated resources that will help parents and athletes understand the recruiting process and how they can get started.

Here are six resources that will help athletes and parents understand the recruiting timeline:

Why Recruiting Will Now Explode In August

What it is: A YouTube video from Recruiting with Alex gives athletes an idea of what to expect in the recruiting world in August and beyond.

Why we like it: Alex makes it clear that the fall is the prime time for recruiting athletes. As of August 1st, 2023, recruiters can talk to rising juniors at camps. Here’s the catch- they can’t talk to you about recruiting. However, this is a great time to establish relationships.

The Importance Of June 15th In The NCAA Recruiting Process

What it is: A YouTube video from SportsRecruits that details the significance of June 15th in the recruiting process and steps moving forward.

Why we like it: We get the total breakdown of June 15th after an athlete’s sophomore year, allowing coaches to initiate recruiting conversations with a specific group of sports prospective athletes, for D1 schools. For D2 schools, coaches can talk to ALL athletes starting this day.

Timing Is Everything, Here's Help Understanding The Recruiting Timeline

What it is: A blog from Keep Playing Baseball that explains the common recruiting for timelines for “The Top Player,” “The Most Common,” and “The Late Bloomers.”

Why we like it: It reassures parents that there’s not just one way to get recruited- it’s different for everyone. The blog gives athletes a sense of control by understanding what exactly they can do if they want their timeline to look a certain way. Coaches and players operate on different timelines as coaches are filling positions and players are looking for the right school academically- and so they have the best competitive opportunities. It’s sometimes a game of “chicken,” they note.

NCSA's 2024-25 Recruiting Rules & Calendar

What it is: A blog from NCSA (Next College Student Athlete) that explains recruiting rules, official visits, and the purpose of these rules.

Why we like it: Whether you’re looking to play D1, D2, or D3, we have all the answers for what the recruiting process looks like. Official visits, for example, are a major step in the recruiting process. It’s only considered “official” if all or part of the trip is paid for by the school. Plus, players can only make one official visit to a D1 school.

5 Major Changes In College Baseball Recruiting

What it is: A YouTube video from Elite Sports Advising on the 5 major changes in college baseball recruiting.

Why we like it: Recruiting used to be much simpler. Now, the NIL portal has changed the opportunities for high school kids, who are lower on the totem pole in comparison to players in the transfer portal. Now, recruiting agents are essential to making sure coaches attend games and see certain players, if not, players are just hoping someone sees their talent.

Preparing For the 34-Man Roster Challenges

What it is: A YouTube video from Driveline Baseball about the implications of the 34 man roster rule in college baseball on players.

Why we like it: Driveline emphasizes how important versatility is. And now- even more so if you want to keep your spot on a team and continue to develop as a player. If you want to play in college, they stress being a “physically mature freshman” so you can hang physically- and with your skill.
