Developing grit is an important skill for athletes at any age or level. Working hard, persevering through tough times and finding a way to get to the finish line no matter how hard it is will serve people throughout life. 

Some of the most successful athletes – and people – are plain gritty. Here are some of our favorite pieces of content on developing grit. 

 

Grit in Motion       

What it is: An inspirational TikTok video about a young boy who didn’t make a basketball team. He’s right back out in the driveway shooting and working on his game. 

Why we like it: We love the stories and life lessons in sports. In this video set to music, the young boy is grinding and is determined to use the disappointment of not making the team as motivation. The message flashes across the screen, “He didn’t let it get him down. He’s back to work.” 

 

How One Athlete Turned The Worst Childhood Moment Into One of the Most Important 

What it is: A story from Progression Beach Volleyball about how to find success after getting cut. The piece begins with the greeting, “To the ones who didn’t make it.” 

Why we like it: The headline to the piece captures it perfectly, “Dear Cut Athletes: It Gets Better.” Inspirational and filled with good tips, this piece hits just right. 

 

Are Sports Giving Our Kids Grit or Anxiety?   

What it is: A blog post from the excellent site I love To Watch You Play that starts out with an important question: Can your Child Get Grit from An Insane Sports Weekend? 

Why we like it: This is an updated post of something the site covered before and it’s filled with terrific information. Well sourced and filled with nuggets this piece is just like the subject matter – gritty.

What it is: A blog post from the site Lead ‘Em Up that details five things disciplined athletes do. 

Why we like it: Well-organized and filled with excellent information, this piece starts with committing to the process. It goes step-by-step on how to be successful like managing emotions, improving and becoming better prepar
