Future Fans
Mike Schroder grew up in the Midwest and has been a long-suffering Cincinnati Bengals fan. After enduring many years of losing, Joe Burrow came on the scene and gave the fanbase hope. In 2022, that hope turned into reality when the Bengals beat the Chiefs, 27-24, to earn their first trip to the Super Bowl in 22 years.
Schroder nervously watched the game by himself and felt immense joy when his team pulled off the victory. But something was missing. Schroder had tried to explain football – and his love of the Bengals – countless times to his then-5-year-old daughter, but as much as he tried, she just couldn’t get into it.
Schroder thought that if he could find a way to teach his daughter football, the moment would have been even sweeter. So, Schroder decided to do something about it.
He teamed up with friend Michael Gold to create an education platform for kids called Future Fans. Through stories, games and toys, Future Fans helps explain the rules of different sports to kids in way they can understand so they can experience a lifetime of moments with the people they love.
Research told Schroder and Gold that 65% of kids from 8-11 didn’t understand the rules of sports, and if they couldn’t understand there was no way they could engage. In order to attack this problem, Schroder and Gold created a consumer product for football and soccer with plans to expand to more sports in the near future. They also built community programming, a library of digital content and activations with gameday experiences.
Future Fans has relationships with the NFL, the Bengals, the Colts, ESPN, the LA Galaxy and others. Their consumer product line for football and soccer includes an activity box with stories, lessons and games for kids. It sells for $59.99. There’s a digital-only product for football that sells for $9.99.
