What Makes a Top Young Star

Texans star quarterback CJ Stroud is more than a talented football player. He’s a thoughtful leader who has learned many lessons through sports – leadership, patience and trust, to name a few.

Stroud recently spoke with Greg Olsen on the latest episode of the Youth Inc. podcast and was extremely insightful.

On playing multiple sports

“Different sports invite different types of movements, different types of fluidity and different types of mobilities to be able to be best at the sport you ultimately get to pick in the end.”

On his family’s emphasis on family and faith

“Our foundation, our core, was our faith. That was what me and my family did. We served our community, we served people as much as possible. That was the standard and the start of the leadership side of me.”

On his relationship with Ohio State coach Ryan Day, which started off rocky

“One day out of nowhere he called me into his office and we just had a talk for probably 6 or 7 hours. At the time we really didn’t get along. After that our relationship has been great ever since. I consider him not only a great coach of mine, but a father figure, somebody who I look at as a friend, a brother.”

đź’ˇTennis Just Did Something Youth Sports Has Needed for Years

Improving the Tennis Experience for All

Every parent knows the difference a coach makes. The right one can keep a kid playing for years. The wrong one can end it in a season. Last week, tennis took a significant step toward bridging that gap with the launch of USTA Coaching, Inc., a national platform designed to provide coaches at every level with the training and tools they have long needed.

Organizations like the Positive Coaching Alliance and the Aspen Institute’s Project Play have been leading the way in shaping how we think about great coaching for years. Other sports, like hockey, volleyball, and lacrosse, have also built strong certification systems. But USTA Coaching raises the bar — it’s one of the first to deliver a truly unified, all-levels education platform that not only covers screening costs and insurance, but even adds unique benefits like telehealth.

Great Reminders for Young Athletes

A recent TikTok trend has former athletes sending a “thank you” message to their sports. Instead of highlight reels, they are showcasing their biggest fails. Missed shots, trips and embarrassing moments they would probably rather forget.

These blooper clips offer a reminder that sports while sports are about competing, they are also about failing, laughing and learning along through the process.
